Helping Veterans Nationwide Gain Peace of Mind Through Financial Security.

Among the most traumatic experiences one can endure is the death of a loved one, particularly a veteran who sacrificed their life to protect our country. You not only have to come to terms with your devastating loss, but you have to evaluate how to secure financial stability for you and your family.

Fortunately, there is a solution but it’s not easy to attain, meaning you should enlist our legal team, at Stevens & Sullivan, LLC to help you throughout the process. The Department of Veterans Affairs administers Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for the surviving spouses and family members of Veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty or due to a service-related matter. What Is Dependency & Indemnity Compensation (DIC)?

Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is a monthly benefit paid to eligible survivors of:

  • Service members who died while on active duty, active duty for training or inactive duty training
  • Veterans who died as a result of a service-connected injury or disease
  • Veterans who did not die as a result of a service-connected injury or disease, but were completely disabled by a service-connected disability:
    • For at least 10 years before death
    • Since their release from active duty and for at least five years before death
    • For at least one year before death, if they were a former prisoner of war and died after Sept. 30, 1999
